We recently attended a Mamarazzi® event screening of the hilarious yet wholesome Paul Blart Mall Cop 2. Who can resist a fun day out in NYC with the family. But we were thrilled the event would include a Q&A session with Kevin James and the film’s director, Andy Fickman.
The movie was of course great fun. The storyline was almost insignificant compared to the physical comedy ala Jackie Gleason, peppered through every single scene. Kevin James clearly gives his all to this awkward but enchanting character. By the end of the movie, the entire theater is his cheering section. The physical humor is so incredibly over the top. The kids did not stop laughing and surprisingly, during a sensitive scene, I thought I caught a tear on the husband’s cheek. Granted, he’s overworked and may have been tired – but I think he enjoyed the movie just as much if not more than our littles. I certainly did too.
The fun kicked into high gear when the movie ended and Kevin James arrived to a packed crowd of young families eager to meet the man behind the mythical mall cop. He’s so giving to his character that we imagined it would be difficult to see him as anyone other than Paul Blart. But we quickly learned that the most important things in his life were simply the same as ours… being with his family over dinner and a great movie.
Here’s his response to the question posed, “What does a great time with your family look like?”
My son also asked Kevin James if he actually owns a Segway.
Fun Fact: Yes he does. But it mostly hangs his clothes now.
Check out the trailer for all the great fun. Searching for this video I read several negative reviews. I had to wonder if the people who penned them would have had a different perspective if they heard the rolling laughter of happy families in the theater during this event – spending quality together time over a silly PG movie. Well done, Paul Blart Mall Cop 2.
