As I type this, the temperature is supposed to get up to a balmy 85 degrees today in the Garden State. Unfortunately, from what I’ve seen of the forecasts for the upcoming months, we’re due for quite a bit of snow in the upcoming months. BEFORE that weather hits, it’s time to get your Emergency Supply Kit in order.
I’ve written at length about how my family prepares for storms (here and here), however, if you haven’t assembled a kit, visit RedCross.org) to download a copy of their Emergency Preparedness Checklist and review it with your family. And if you have, now is the time to go through it and purge any expired food products; refill the kit with fresh supplies and adjust it to meet the needs of your family. For example, if your child isn’t in diapers any more or if you’ve gotten a new pet since making the kit, update it to insure it will suit your family.
Sure, the snow may be a few months away, but NOW is the time to stock up on supplies while the stores have plenty of them. Don’t get caught, as most of us did a few Octobers ago when Mother Nature sent us that freak snowstorm, without the materials you need to survive bad weather and power outages. Prepare for sudden emergencies TODAY.
