There’s so much good (and not so) stuff going on that we figured a weekly “What Happened” would be fun. Here’s our debut for week of October 14th, 2013.
Government re-opens. Congress passes a deal that extends the debt ceiling and our Government Shutdown is over. Back to normal. A new kind of nauseating normal. Here’s a fun interactive from the NY Times that takes you through the slippery slope of political stupidity that was the last 16 days of our American lives. (Warning: May cause dizziness. Vomiting may occur.)
Martha disses. “Who are these Bloggers?”, she says with discord and a tone that tells of ignorance and disconnect from a large percentage of her fan base and a massive vehicle through which she’s been able to grow her brand and audience. If she weren’t self-absorbed, she would know that. Her insiders should tell her. Bravo to BlogHer for offering an alternative response. Maybe the interview caught her on a bad day. Or, maybe she’s threatened by progress. Have some thoughts on this? By all means. Let her know.
Cory wins. Popular Newark Mayor, Cory Booker, wins a seat in the U.S. Senate filling the position and term of the late U.S. Senator Frank Lautenberg and becoming the first African-American ever elected to statewide office in New Jersey. He joins South Carolina’s Tim Scott, a Republican, as the only African-Americans in the U.S. Senate. So that’s fun news. Onward. Upward, Gentlemen. Tweet him a big Congrats here.
Halloween looms nearer. Are you ready to get your inner ghoul on? Or is the overflow of cob-webbed-graveyard fakery and pumpkin-spiced insanity enough to make you hide indoors until November? My teeth hurt already. Either way, it’s pretty unavoidable. I, for one, enjoy the madness and in my costume search have uncovered some noteworthy numbers. I don’t have a dog. Yet. But if I did, this would be in my Amazon.com shopping cart.
Oh, and if you want to “trick AND treat” your kids this year, check out this TASTY Healthy Snacks giveaway we’re running for our friends at Wave Bars. Good stuff to balance out all that Halloween candy-eating on the horizon.
Weekly Upworthy. You know…. “Things that matter. Pass ’em on”. If you don’t know about Upworthy, they’re worthy. We promise. Here’s something worth passing on. This young woman totally kills the crowd with her poem about women, role models, body issues, the vicious cycle and the importance of good parenting.
This is an original post for JerseyMomsBlog. Happy Friday.
