Fall is my favorite time of year. I love the change in weather and the crispness that comes with the cooler air. I love the vibrant colors all around me. I love the sound of the leaves crunching beneath my feet and being raked up. I love putting up Halloween decorations and contemplating Halloween costumes. Sometimes I even love sitting on the soccer field. I love it all.
One of the activities we love doing as a family during the fall season is apple picking. We try hard to squeeze it into our busy calendars and make a day of it. We’ll drive up to Eastmont Orchards, pick waaaaaaay too many apples of different varieties, and then head to Delicious Orchards to pick up some apple cider donuts. On our drive home we contemplate all the different things we can bake up with our newly picked treasures. Apple sauce, apple pie, apple muffins, apple cake, the possibilities are endless. It is the one time of year I don’t mind being in kitchen.
I thought I’d share one of our treats we whipped up this weekend. Apple chips! Even for those of you who don’t love to bake, apple chips are a quick, tasty treat you can make with very little effort. Take your favorite variety of apple and slice them paper thin. Spread them out on a baking sheet and if you like, sprinkle them with sugar and cinnamon. Put in a preheated oven at 200 degrees and bake for 2-3 hours, until they dry out. Simple as that! They can be kept for a few days in an air tight container.
